A group of trekkers on the Mardi Himal ridge at sunset
Private group departures · 2026

Group booking.

Bring your own group and the per-person price falls at 3, 6 and 11 trekkers. Every rate on this page is published, applies automatically to the size of your party, and covers a private departure on your own dates. Below: the full matrix for every Mardi Himal itinerary, what changes as a group grows, and the parts that are constrained by the trail rather than by us.

The guide costs the same however many of you walk.

A Mardi Himal trek has two kinds of cost. Some are per person and do not move: your ACAP permit, your TIMS card, your bed, your meals. The rest are fixed for the trip whatever its size, and the guide is the biggest of them. Split one guide across eight trekkers instead of one and the per-person figure falls hard, which is the entire reason the tiers below exist. It is arithmetic, not a promotion, so there is no expiry date on it and no code to ask for.

Five price tiers, applied on the number of people who actually walk. A group that grows into the next tier before departure gets the better rate; one that shrinks moves back up. We tell you which tier you are in when we quote.

2026 rates, per person, every itinerary.

All figures are per person in USD and valid through 31 December 2026. Each includes the ACAP permit, the TIMS card, a licensed guide for the whole trek, transport as listed on the trip page, teahouse accommodation, and the meals shown there. Flights, insurance, porters and personal spending are not included.

The 3-day trek runs from USD 220 to USD 405 per person on the same tier structure; its full breakdown is on its own page. Groups above 20 are quoted directly. For the permit and fee detail every rate is built on, see permits and cost.

Groups we build trips around.

Families

Mixed ages and mixed pace

The 6-day and 8-day itineraries spread the same ridge over more nights, which is what makes them work for families walking with children or with parents who would rather not climb 900 metres in a day. Teahouses on this trail take families as a matter of course.

Friends

The group of four to eight

This is where the rate structure bites hardest. Six friends pay USD 390 each on the 6-day against USD 607 for one person walking privately, and the trek is the same trek. The discount is not a promotion, it is the fixed costs split more ways.

Clubs and societies

Hiking clubs, alumni groups, run clubs

Groups of 11 to 20 hit the lowest published tier on every itinerary. Above 20 we quote directly, because at that size the constraint stops being price and becomes teahouse capacity on the ridge, which we have to plan around rather than book.

Companies and teams

Offsites and team trips

A private departure means fixed dates you can put in a calendar months ahead, one invoice, and a guide who is only looking after your people. We can hold a provisional date while you confirm numbers internally.

Universities and schools

Student and expedition groups

Trip-grade detail, the day-by-day altitude profile, and our insurance requirement are all published, which is usually what a risk assessment needs. See the trip grades and travel insurance pages, and ask us for anything a form needs that is not on the site.

Yoga and retreat groups

Teachers bringing their own students

The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek runs sunrise and sunset practice on the trail. Teachers who want to bring their own group and lead the practice themselves should ask, because that changes what the trip needs from us and what it should cost.

From a group chat to the trailhead.

  1. 01

Tell us the group and the month

How many of you, roughly when, and which itinerary you have in mind. If you are not sure which trek fits a mixed-ability group, say so and we will tell you rather than sell you the longest one.

  2. 02

    We send one fixed quote

A single per-person price for your group size, taken from the published rates below, with the inclusions listed in full. No per-head recalculation later, and no surcharge for the odd person out.

  3. 03

    Reserve with a 30 % deposit

One deposit holds the whole group: your dates, your guide, and enough teahouse beds in one lodge. Autumn High Camp rooms are the constraint, so the earlier a group books, the better it sleeps.

  4. 04

    Walk as your own group

A private departure runs on your dates with only your party and your guide. No strangers joining, no fixed calendar to fit around, and the pace is set by your slowest walker rather than by a schedule.

Prefer to join an existing group rather than bring one? Solo travellers and pairs can take a scheduled place on fixed departures and reach a group rate that way. Deposit, cancellation and postponement terms for both are on the booking policy.

What groups actually ask.

How big does a group have to be to get a discount?

Three. The published rates step down at 3, at 6, and again at 11 trekkers, and the step is applied automatically from the size of your party. Two people already pay considerably less each than one person trekking privately, because the guide's cost is shared. There is nothing to negotiate and no code to ask for; the tier is the price.

What is the largest group you can take on Mardi Himal?

The published rates run to 20 trekkers. Beyond that we quote case by case, because the ceiling on this trail is teahouse capacity rather than guiding. High Camp and Badal Danda have a finite number of beds, and in October a group of 30 cannot be housed in one lodge on one night. Large groups are usually run as two staggered departures a day or two apart.

Does everyone in the group have to do the same itinerary?

On a private departure, no. Groups often split for a day: some walk to the Upper Viewpoint at 4,200 m while others stop at High Camp and wait. That has to be planned in advance so we can staff it, because it means a second guide for the day rather than splitting one guide across two altitudes.

Can we book as a group and pay individually?

Yes. The 30 % deposit can come from one person or be split across the group, and the balance is settled in Kathmandu before the trek starts. What we cannot do is hold a group rate for a party that then shrinks below the tier: the price follows the number of people who actually walk.

What happens to our rate if someone drops out?

The group moves to whatever tier its final size lands in. A party of six that becomes five moves from the 6 to 10 rate to the 3 to 5 rate, so the per-person price rises even though the group got smaller. We flag this when we quote so it is not a surprise, and cancellation terms for the person leaving follow the published booking policy.

Is a private group departure more expensive than joining a fixed departure?

Per person, usually yes for a small party and no for a large one. A fixed departure lets two or three people share a guide with strangers and pay a group rate they could not reach on their own. A group of eight already reaches the 6 to 10 tier by itself, so going private costs nothing extra and gets you your own dates.

Tell us how many and when.

Send the group size and a target month and we come back with one fixed per-person quote, the tier it falls in, and the dates we can actually house a group of that size. Usually the same day.
